Breve descripción:

The mission of the Universidad Francisco de Vitoria can be briefly stated as providing future professionals with teaching that is founded on humanistic principles, the aim being that its students can mature as individuals while receiving academic and practical training of excellence to prepare them for the workplace. The University seeks above all to train dedicated individuals and highly-skilled professionals that can set the standards for those they live and work alongside - professionals who can be proactive and effective in their decision making. To achieve this, the University stresses three main lines of action: achieving academic excellence, providing a personal, all-round education for the student, and organizing practical training so the student is ready to enter the labour market. But University education cannot be reduced to the mere technical preparation of future professionals, it should strive to go well beyond this and seek to educate the whole person. At the UFV we understand that our students must learn to ask questions, must know how to reflect and, ultimately, they must be able to provide answers that give sense and meaning to their lives.

Historia:

The UFV opened its doors to students in October 1993 as an affiliated centre of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. A few years later, in 2001, it was granted full status as a private university and its degree courses gained full official recognition. The UFV is a member of an international university network that includes higher education institutions of great prestige in the US, Europe and South America. The University defines itself as being of Catholic persuasion, open and international. • The UFV is of Catholic persuasion. This means that while it respects the individual freedom of all of students and academic teaching staff, its model of education is inspired by the values of Christian humanism, which include ethical behaviour in professional practice, personal integrity and social commitment. • The UFV is open to all people and forms of knowledge. The University welcomes students from all cultural, social and economic backgrounds and is open to new technologies, science, research, culture and change. • The UFV is strengthening its international profile, which means ensuring that its students are proficient in English but at the same time able to build professional careers in a global world.

Docencia:

The Bologna Process seeks to ensure that students obtain greater benefits from their degree programs. While attending lectures and seminars and taking part in workshops, students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning, albeit with the close supervision of the University’s academic teaching staff. To facilitate their learning, students can use the UFV Virtual Classroom, an e-learning platform that supports classroom learning day and night by providing access to additional documentation on the subject, self-assessment tests and forums. Students, working individually or in groups, can also send their finished work to the platform and check their course marks. All the UFV’s degrees enjoy official recognition (Bachelor’s degrees, Undergraduate Degrees, Engineering and Technical Engineering Degrees, Master’s and Dual degrees) and are complemented by the UFV’s “own” specialised courses. The latter are taught in collaboration with leading firms in each sector with the aim of providing students with valuable professional experience. The UFV’s teaching is not confined to just undergraduate education. It also includes: • Postgraduate training, with a range of master’s programs and specialist courses on lifelong learning programs for graduates. • Bespoke courses for firms, through the programs organized by the Integrated Management Development Institute (IDDI). Other opportunities include: • Free, intensive language courses for beginners • Subjects taught in English when a student achieves a certain proficiency • The chance to spend a term in a European or American university - the compatibility of the curricula of the universities making up the UFV’s network facilitates the mobility of students that wish to enhance their academic profile • The presence of foreign students on the Madrid campus encourages the development of a framework for peaceful coexistence with different peoples and cultures, based on respect and tolerance. • Internships in multinational companies in Spain and abroad.
