Centres teaching Spanish and Spain’s co-official languages

Most Spanish universities have centres that teach Spanish to students from abroad. Some centres also teach Spain’s co-official languages: for example Catalan in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands, Valencian in the Community of Valencia, Galician in Galicia and Basque in the Basque Country. Some of these courses in the co-official languages are taught free of charge.

The Spanish language centres offer courses at all levels, as well as conversation classes and courses in Spanish for business or other specific areas of knowledge. Many of these centres offer made-to-measure programmes for groups on short study stays in Spain as part of specific programmes or agreements.

Most centres offer intensive courses during the summer and extensive courses throughout the academic year.

At some centres the language teaching is complemented by courses on Spanish culture. Courses in Spanish language and culture may bear ECTS credits (ECTS = European Credit Transfer System).

Some of these university centres are authorized to award the Cervantes Institute’s Diploma in Spanish as a Foreign Language (Diploma en Español como Lengua Extranjera - DELE). Information regarding authorized centres can be found on the Cervantes Institute’s website: diplomas.cervantes.es

For further information on the centres that offer courses in Spanish and the other official languages, and the timetables, levels and prices, please contact the university in question.

Most of these centres also offer language exchange services for students and researchers from Spain and abroad.
