Short description:

The Universidad Camilo José Cela (UCJC), awarded an ISO Quality Certification in 2007, offers an unrivalled range of accredited degree courses. Moreover, its commitment to building the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) is reflected in the fact that it is one of Spain’s private universities teaching the largest number of EHEA bachelor’s and master’s degrees. This academic year it offers fifteen bachelor’s courses (nine pending EHEA approval) and thirteen master’s courses (five pending approval). Two of the master’s degrees form part of international programs taught in collaboration with the EAE Business School.

History:

The private university of UCJC was created in the year 2000. It forms part of the SEK Educational Institution which boasts more than 60,000 alumni and over 115 years of commitment to innovative teaching practices. It is characterised by the excellence of its academic teaching staff and its independent secular ideology at the service of generations of Spanish students who have passed through its classrooms and lecture halls.

Docencia:

Founded at the beginning of the new millennium, the UCJC can claim to be one of the most modern universities in the country. It seeks to be a free-thinking university that looks to the future for the answers to its educational and training objectives. The University was established with the goal of becoming actively involved in Spanish society and in the challenges of modernisation that the country faces. And it aims to achieve this by undertaking the rigorous training of students to ensure their personal and professional development. At a time when the number of university students in Spain is stagnating everywhere, investing in education represents a decisive investment in the future. Last year, the UCJC was the Spanish university that proportionally enjoyed most growth, surpassing a total of 4,750 students.

Research:
University Extension:

In addition to its degree programs, the University offers students a cross-disciplinary program of professional skills, the Programa Empléate a Fondo. This seeks to ensure that when they graduate, in addition to having acquired the professional knowledge of their chosen field, students are able to apply their knowledge in the professional world. These skills constitute an essential added value and guarantee that UCJC’s students are versatile and capable of showing initiative in building their professional careers. The personal aptitudes acquired serve to enhance the students’ professional development and are a critical factor in job selection procedures.

International Relations:

The UCJC’s International Relations Office is responsible for organizing mobility programs for students and academic teaching staff within the framework of cooperation agreements signed with foreign universities. University members are encouraged to participate on programs both in and outside the European Union as provided for under agreements signed with partner universities.

Facilities and services:

The UCJC is one of the most modern universities in Spain, with a growing reputation for its adoption of new information technologies. It stands on an extensive green field site and is equipped with modern teaching facilities, multimedia classrooms, two student halls of residence, an auditorium, a library, laboratories and workshops, a cafeteria and restaurant, a student shop and a staff block. To these can be added the University’s excellent sports facilities: eight hard tennis courts, two clay courts, four paddle tennis courts, two squash courts, a sports hall, an indoor heated swimming pool, a weights room, a fitness gym, horse-riding facilities and a seven-a-side football field with artificial turf is currently being installed.

Distinguishing features:

The UCJC has just launched its new, completely up-dated Web 2.0 site, which allows its new internet space to serve as an ideal channel for student communication and participation. In its quest to create an open university with equal opportunities for all, the UCJC has fitted this site with interactive facilities that permit the whole university community to participate. This philosophy places the University at the cutting-edge of the country’s educational institutions. In addition the UCJC has an official presence on today’s leading social networks: Facebook, Tuenti, Youtube, Linkedin and Xing, and of course, Twitter, considered by many as the most interesting Web 2.0 application in 2008.
