Universidad.es has organized, thanks to the help of the Cervantes Institute in New Delhi, the first Spanish university fair in India. Present at the fair were 20 Spanish universities which, during the course of the weekend, have put on display their academic and research offer to the Indian students who came to the Cervantes Institute over the weekend.

In Spain’s strategy for internationalising its university system, India is of utmost importance. For this reason, making an impact in the country was a demand that needed to be met immediately.

Before the fair there was a press conference with Indian media in which the Director of the Universidad Foundation, José Manuel Martínez Sierra, and the Director of the Cervantes Institute, Óscar Pujol, explained the fundamental objectives and framework of this event.

During the fair 6 intensive Spanish courses were raffled off for the Indian students in attendance. The universities that gave out this prize were the universities of the Balearic Islands, Málaga, Almería, UIMP, and Deusto. The Universidad.es Foundation will cover students’ travel expenses while the housing and enrolment costs will be paid for by the universities.

In the days following the fair, the Foundation has organized a round of visits to universities in Delhi and the surrounding metropolitan area, as well as conferences with important representatives of Indian higher education. These activities along with the fair itself are the first steps to be taken in order to establish a solid strategy for cooperation with India.
 

Universidad.es is a public sector foundation that aims to promote the Spanish university system throughout the world. The foundation was set up by the Spanish government with the support of Spain’s regional governments and of the universities themselves, on 23 December 2008.
